“She can be wearing anything and look amazing because she never looks primped or contrived or self-conscious. It takes a truly cool girl to pull off short-shorts and rain boots. But she makes it look easy, and that’s what we all want, to look like we don’t have to try hard.”
History
Peter Som’s aesthetic of bold sophistication and eclectic elegance has brought a fresh point of view the fashion world. The San Francisco native began drawing at a young age—inspired by his architect parents and the laid-back elegance of hippie-era Bay Area. Today, Peter continues to draw from these early influences as he designs clothes for confidently elegant women with that same eclectic spirit. Known for his signature bold prints, he finds beauty in the elegant and the odd. In Peter’s world, social eccentrics like Peggy Guggenheim and Edie Beale stand alongside creative minds like Diane Arbus and Cecil Beaton.
Peter graduated Cum Laude in Art History from Connecticut College in 1993 and continued his studies at Parsons School of Design where he was a recipient of the Isaac Mizrahi Gold Thimble Award. While at Parsons, he apprenticed with two of America’s most revered designers – Michael Kors and Calvin Klein. After graduating, Peter honed his skills in the design room of the legendary Bill Blass.
